Hokitika, South Island (New Zealand) - "Destination Westland South Island Ultra Marathon". Destination Westland South Island Ultra Marathon Saturday 11 May 2024 There are 3 events all being held on the amazing West Coast Wilderness Trail where runners will experience Lakes, Reservoirs, Rivers, Streams, Water Races, Swing Bridges, Bridges from Historic Tram Lines, A Western Town, Forestry, Wetlands, Board Walks, Mountains and the Sea just to name a few things. This trail has been described by so many as the Most Scenic Mountain Bike Ride in New Zealand, it is now also known as New Zealand Fastest and Most Scenic Ultra Marathon. 3 Events: South Island Ultra 100km Greymouth to Hokitika - Solo or Team of 2 (Teams change at Old Chch Road) - Starts at 5:00am; South Island Ultra 54km Old Christchurch Road to Hokitika - Solo or Team of 2 (Team Change at Sunny Bight Feed Station) - Starts 8:00am; South Island Warm Up 24km Lake Kaniere to Hokitika - Solo - Starts 11:00am. Individual Records: Daniel Jones: 7 hours 44 minutes 14 seconds for the 100km (male) 2023, Konoka Azumi: 8 Hours 13 minutes 43 seconds for the 100km (female) 2023, Patrick McKenna: 4 hours 12 minutes 34 seconds for the 54km (male) 2023, Caris Teo: 4 Hours 32 Minutes 58 seconds 54km (female) 2021, Hayden Squance: 1 hour 32 minutes 51 seconds for the 24km (male) 2023, Catherine Delaporte Marsh: 1 Hour 48 minutes 56 seconds 24km (female) 2022. This run is limited to 600 participants on the day. This Ultra caters for the beginner through to the Elite Ultra Athlete looking to do their fastest time. The Trail is a Grade 2 Mountain Bike Ride and does give some good uphill climbs, with the finish a good downhill to the seafront finish in Hokitika, total elevation is around 720m for the 100km run. "This is based off competitors records of 2021". 3 Fantastic Runs on the West Coast Wilderness Trail, the 100km and 54km can be done as a Team of 2 or Individual. The 24km is an individual solo event. These Ultra Marathons give everyone the chance to experience some great racing in the beauty of the West Coast of New Zealand, whether you're a first timer or an elite athlete, the challenge is here for you. All 3 events finish on the Beach Front of Hokitika. This is a fast trail and gives you the opportunity to do a very fast 100km. Ashburton, South Island (New Zealand) - "South Island Half Marathon". The South Island Half Marathon is being held at Lake Hood Ashburton. This beautiful lake will host the South Island Half Marathon and 1/6 Marathon. Held in the beautiful Lake Hood catchment, the run will see runners run around the lake and experience amazing water views throughout the run. Then some of the most amazing home and garden settings and reserves in the South Island. South Island Half Marathon will cater for all runners; whether you're a beginner or an elite runner, this fast-flat course will give you the opportunity to do one of the fastest half's you ve ever done. There will be a walking section in both the 1/2 and 1/6 marathon, plus the Hybrid in the 1/2 marathon - "This allows you to run a bit and walk a bit". With the Kidz Dash being a 1.5km run, this giving them a flavour of the experience of running at the lake and subdivision. The Minimum age for the Half Marathon is 13-years of age on Race Day and the 7km is 10-years of age on Race Day. Start Times: All Walkers and Hybrid will start at 9:30am with race brief at 9:25am. All Runners will start at 10:00am with race brief at 9:50am. The Kidz Dash will start at 10:08am with race brief at 10:05am. The run will see the South Island Half Marathon do 3 laps of Lake Hood, taking in the beauty of the lake especially at this time of year still and calm especially as the sun comes up. All Walkers and Hybrid will start at 9:30am with race brief at 9:25am. All Runners will start at 10:00am with race brief at 9:50am. The Kidz Dash will start at 10:08am with race brief at 10:05am. The race brief and race start will be at the Lake House at Lake Hood. The 1/6 Marathon will see runners go once around Lake Hood and covering 7km. Runners in both the South Island Half Marathon and 1/6 Marathon will start together. Race numbers are to be pinned to the front of your running shirt. Walkers and Hybrid competitors will start 30 minutes before the runners start. We ask that the runners during the event let walkers know when they're coming up on them. Walkers, please be aware of runners coming up on you throughout the event, especially with it being a lapped course. The Minimum age for the Half Marathon and 7km is 10-years of age on Race Day. There will be drink stations during the event, one based approximately 3.5km into the run and the other just past the start line. This event is not suitable for wheelchair athletes or for prams.
